About Essentia

Essentia Homes is building one place to find a room and the people you’d share it with. You’ll be able to search homes, explore roommate profiles and talk before you commit. It’s in early development: this site runs a working demo on sample data, and you can join the waitlist for launch.

Anyone looking for a room, a roommate or both: students, international students, young professionals and people moving somewhere new. People with a room to rent will be able to list it too.

No. Essentia is a discovery and connection platform. Homes are listed by their owners, managers or current residents.

Joining the waitlist and taking the survey are free. Pricing for the platform hasn’t been set. We’ll be clear about any costs before launch, and we don’t plan to put core safety features behind a paywall.

Not yet. iPhone and Android apps are in the works. Join the waitlist and we’ll tell you the day they launch.

Searching, matching and messaging

Both. Every listing says clearly whether it’s a private room, a shared room, a studio or an entire place, and the filters keep them separate.

Yes. You can browse people without picking a home first, or search homes and see who already lives there. You can also team up with someone and look for a place together.

You share how you like to live: sleep schedule, tidiness, guests, noise, pets and cooking. Essentia compares that with other people’s answers and explains what you have in common and what’s worth talking about. It’s a starting point for a conversation, not a guarantee you’ll get along.

Yes. Create a free account, set up your profile and message other members one-to-one in Messages. Every chat has block and report options. Keep money, ID documents and lease signing out of chat until you’ve seen the place.

That’s one of the main reasons Essentia exists. You’ll be able to search by neighborhood or campus, video-chat with households and compare details from anywhere. Still, see a place in person or on a live video tour before paying anything.

It depends on the property. Some landlords require a credit check or a Social Security number, and many room providers don’t. Essentia can’t change a landlord’s requirements, but listings will show what’s needed so you can find options that suit your situation.

Yes, listing a room is planned for launch. Join the waitlist and choose “List a room” so we can reach out when listing opens.

Trust and privacy

Each badge will say exactly what was checked, who checked it and when. An ID check confirms identity through a verification provider. It isn’t a background check and doesn’t prove someone will be a good roommate. Details nobody has checked are labeled as self-reported.

Right now we only collect what you choose to share on the waitlist and survey forms. We use it to understand renters’ needs and to contact you about Essentia, and we don’t sell it. The privacy policy has the details.

When Essentia launches, every listing and profile will have a report button. Until then, if you see anything suspicious using Essentia’s name, email hello@essentiahomes.website.
